Bye Bye Hurricane Dean

Well, I have survived with minimum water damage to my home and the only effect on me was a severe case of traumatizing boredom. The rains came about 10am Sunday morning the Power Company cut the electricity about 2pm and Dean arrived around an hour later and lasting for about 11-12 hours till the early hours of Monday morning.

What did I do during the storm?

The winds ere coming from the east and fortunately my house faces the west so believe it or not I was out on my veranda watching the wind, rain and debris blow past and because I was facing the direction of the wind with my house providing a shield behind me I could sit quite comfortably in a raincoat and boots while barely getting wet. I sat out front for hours until out of the mist and poor visibility came a group of my friends! I couldn’t resist the urge to “explore” and so I joined then walking around my housing scheme, I wish I had a digital camera. I couldn’t see more than about 100 meters ahead of me sometimes and there we times when the breeze would force us to grab unto something or lie flat on the ground. I am very slim and kind of tall: less than 150lbs and 185cm and there we times that I felt that if I timed my jump at the right time I would go airborne ^_^, I didn’t try it though as I lacked the proper “landing gear”. We saw houses with missing roofs and all kinds of downed trees and debris flying all over the place. Then we came up on a truckload of about 20-30 JDF soldiers, I didn’t wait to share greetings I just made a 180 turn and headed back home, besides it was getting dark ^_^.

I got home, cold, wet and exhausted, I dried off got warm closes and ate…chicken and rice never tasted so good in a long while. I played monopoly with my sister while peeking through the window when we heard the winds picking up or crashing and banging sounds. Then I went to bed, in a silent, dark, scary room…all by myself around midnight -_-.

After the Storm

I woke up around 6am Monday because of all the noise and chatter that was going on outside. When looked through my window the road was crowded with people, the rain had stopped and it was cloudy, I can’t believe it was over already!I went outside and felt like I was walking amongst zombies who crawled out of all kinds of cracks in the netherworld, all the chatter, laughter, hammering, generators running, drilling, babies crying and chainsaws. i walked around with my friends inspecting the damage then we took advantage of a main road blocked in multiple places, made some makeshift goals from stones, got a ball and voila!….football in the streets!

After that I ate then fell asleep, I woke up around 2pm and dug up my Nintendo DS and played to relieve the boredom, but by that time the lack of electricity was beginning to drive me crazy -_-.

Whats up now?

I’m at work today (Tuesday) enjoying luxuries such as air conditioning and an internet connection. I am catching up on the things I missed over the last 2 days and responding to emails from concerned friends not on the island. I will be checking up on my other island bloggers soon and post links to their Hurricane Dean experiences.

  1. The boredom was a killer!!! I’m still at home with no electricity I’m just itching to head back to the office.
I’m not a manual type of guy but monday morning even I started chopping up wood an clearing the tree debris around the house.

  2. I’m glad you are okay!

If I was there, I would have been freaked out pretty badly. I always think a tree is going to fall on our house, or the roof is going to be blown away~

  3. @ Olivia…I’m glad to be back ^_^

@ Yatta….I’m not a manual guy either I can just imagine

@ Kranthi….nice site, Brian Lara is a great crickter as well ^_^

@ Tokio….I’d keep you safe throughout the storm ^_^
