Yonasu: The anime is much funnier. I’m not sure what people see in most J-Dramas. GTO is a mediocre J-drama at best. Check out the anime first. It’s great. I’m not a huge anime fan and I loved it.

Most otaku recommend watching Akihabara@Deep after Densha Otoko. I couldn’t get into it, but YMMV.

I had seen Densha Otoko, and was looking for a new J-Drama because I enjoy that one so much. My Japanese teacher recommended GTO, and I looked it up and was able to watch it. I was amazed, I’m hoping to find another series to watch, the later episodes left you wanting to see more it was just a great series.

yonasu: I watched it not knowing there was an anime or manga out there. It was my second or third series after Densha Otoko (which was my first, and something I’m rewatching).

My first foray into Japanese Drama was ‘Densha Otaku’ which I still maintain as the best series I’ve seen.

I haven’t seen the anime, I wonder if I should see that first? Live action-dramas are often pretty bad and if you haven’t seen the anime you have nothing to relate to… But maybe I’ll give it a try^^

It was quite a fun show, lots of talented young actors.
Did you know that the actor who acted Onizuka(Takashi Sorimachi) and the actress portraying Fuyutsuki (Matsushima Nanako) got married after working together in GTO.^^
