Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn – Day of the Unicorn

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn is originally a light novel that is in it’s final chapters before being wrapped up, but for months now Gundam fans have been waiting for the anime adaptation of the novel. The wait for the first episode is over while the wait for the episode 2 of the six part series has begun. The story of Gundam Unicorn takes place three years after the happenings of the 1988 movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack in the Universal Century time-line so the story and plot elements is automatically returns to its roots but at the same time incorporates a fresh set of characters and technology that updates the look at feel of the series to the 21st century.

I watched he first episode – “Day of the Unicorn” which is an introductory episode that introduces some of the major characters that will take part in the story of the series including the famed Unicorn Gundam. Some of the characters we have met so far include Banagher – a young student from a space colony Audrey – a girl who is saved by Banager who seems to a very important individual with many secrets, Marida a badass pilot of a mobile suit she calls Kshatriya.

Die-hard Gundam Fans

I haven’t read the light novel the anime is based on and don’t intend to but from what I have gathered so far from the first episode and reading about the seriesΒ  is that Gundam Unicorn is a series aimed at die-hard Gundam fans and while still enjoyable is not as accessible as a series like Gundam OO first and second season was. I am expecting a complex story with various factions, lot twists, punctuated by epic battles, struggles, death and victory.

3 Year series

I intentionally left Gundam Unicorn off my interesting Sring 2010 anime list because of the long time fans will have to wait in-between each new episodes release as the 6 episode series is expected to be spread over 3 years! Check out some more screenshots from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn – Day of the Unicorn below and look out for my write-up of future releases.

    1. yup watched it with a bunch of Gundam loving pals. It seems Gunam oo has watered down my Gundam brain so had to see it a couple times to take in everything. Now as you say the 6 month wait for the next episode begins.

      1. Ditto. I had to watch it twice. Not only to understand everything going on but to enjoy the crisp Blu-Ray over again. [anime]
