fun series, watched it straight through in 2 days. i like the maturity that grew in the characters into. but i would still like to see couples get together in the end instead of dieing all the time hehehe.

it did have a period about 3/4 of the way through that was somewhat slow and disappointing but all together it was a great series

Comparison wise it was probably sub-conscious and done across all the anime I’ve seen.

Other than the art it just didn’t feel like it stacked up to FLCL and Dead Leaves which are both on my top list of anime.

I would need to rewatch it again and give you a play by play on all the things I found ridiculously strange and every time my Suspension of Disbelief tried to kick in my brain would call bullshit.

I can understand the appeal from a show that just feels absolutely unbelievable, and thus bring a sense of wonder. But it’s just not something that appealed to me.

Well “CS” I would really like to know which animes you are comparing Guren to because I found it to be crazy fun personally I’m more for the serious animes so I mostly watch anime movies, after this is Japanese humour and I’m a Westerner so I rarely find animes that I actually consider funny and I found Guren rather amusing in some animes you see things that are clearly impossible and its a turn off to how drastic and overly unrealistic it is (even for an anime or manga) but even though Guren may have been the craziest most far fetched anime I have seen in a while the way it was scripted they way it was executed I just loved it. Only one anime comes to mind that could be compared to Guren well two actually one series and one is a movie the series is Fooly Cooly or FLC or FCL I don’t quite remember it it was another way out there and rather extreme anime and I wasn’t rather fond of it the other one is “Dead Leaves” which was much more graphic but it had the extreme, way out there, very far fetched scenes.

I wish I could share your sentiments. I admit the art is great, and the first couple of episodes I liked but by the time the death occurred, the show lost it’s luster and began to feel very cookie cutter. The characters motivations felt questionable and the suddenly become stronger out of no where, felt way too repetitive.

If I was 5 years younger I would’ve probably loved it. But I’ve seen it way too much.
