Hello Kitty Hospital in Taiwan

Japan’s obsession with cute, brightly coloured characters is well known. Characters like Pikachu, Doraemon and especially Hello Kitty enjoy iconic status in Japan. The Hello Kitty craze has now spread to neighboring Taiwan with the opening of a 30-bed Hau Sheng Hospital in Yuanlin in central Taiwan which becomes the world’s first Hello Kitty themed hospital.

When quizzed about the reason for opening such a medical establishment director Tsai Tsung-chi responded “I wish that everyone who comes here, mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from an illness, can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster.”

Cute – yet insidious creepy… or am I the only one who thinks there’s something sinister about all things cute?

For a children’s hospital it probably is a good style, especially in Asia where Hello Kitty is so popular.

I agree with Tonya. Still, it would make a great kids’ hospital. May reduce their fear of the doctor.
