I didn’t know Herb died until reading this post and doing some follow up. I remember him, I attended Calabar for the first time in 1976, which makes herb then, younger than I am now. I can’t believe how much time has gone by, it seems like it all happened if not yesterday, several weeks ago. I tried out for the track & field team every year, I’d do the laps and compete in races, but the competition was fierce back then. Men like Herb were great influences on many of us who were fortunate enough to know and meet them and I consider myself honored to have met and known him for all those years he was our coach.

It is incredible,it is already one year since the GREAT Herb McKinley passed on.Interstingly,it seemed like yesterday.Jamaipanese,during the Olympics,Mr.Mckinley entered my thoughts several times,specifically, with respect to Jamaica’s stellar performances in the number of gold medals won.And in particular the achievements of Mr. Usain Bolt.I am of the perspective that Mr. McKinley was watching that Olympics from above and inspiring the Black,Green and Gold.Nonetheless,it is a pity that he did not live longer to see/witness the incredible performances of LIGHTNING BOLT.I know he would have enjoyed such performances on the part of the incredulous BOLT.Indeed,a true CALABAR lion and a GREAT SON OF JAMAICA.Nuff respect!!
