New JR Kanto Area Pass Available next month

Starting next month East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will be selling a new JR Kanto Area Pass available to holders of a non-Japanese passport arriving at Haneda or Narita Airport. The discounted pass is valid for 3 consecutive days and allows unlimited rides in Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto area on JR trains, Shinkansen and even some private lines. The passes costs 8000 yen for adults and 4000 yen for kids under 12 and will be used starting January 1st 2012.

As someone who has used a rail pass while visiting Japan I can’t stress how useful this could be and it’s even more convenient than the pass I used because it can be bought in Japan at the Kanto area airports and major stations like Shibuya, Shinjuku, Yokohama and Ueno. Try not to confuse the JR Kanto pass with the JR East Pass, JR Raill Pass (which I used) and the myriad of other passes available for JR lines, other railways and even buses. More details on the JR Kanto pass is available on the East japan railway website here. Feel free to ask any questions in a comment below!

  1. Is there a daily or weekly ticket, that covers all the main parts of Tokyo? I haven’t researched it yet, but I hope that the subway can take me to most famous places (Ginza, Shibuya, Harajuku etc.)

    1. here are quite a few rail passes provided by JR, check out their website, one of them (if not the one I blogged about here) should be perfect for you

  2. 物井ってJR東日本の総武本線の駅ですけどそこ物井は使えないでしょうか?[shocked]
