Complete Samus Aran and Metroid Story

I’ve stated in a couple posts before that Samus Aran is my video game wife and she would like all her adoring fans to refer to her by her full name Samus Aran-Jamaipanese. My darling’s new game drops at the end of this month and I thought I’d share an awesome trailer I found recently that details Samus’ story involving the Metroid so far.

Will Metroid Other M take over from Super Metroid as my favourite in the series?

Narrated Story trailer

The narrated story is viewable in an embedded video below and covers The original Metroid on the NES, Metroid II: Return of Samus on the Gameboy and my favourite Super Metroid for the SNES. Interesting there is no mention of the Prime trilogy though O.o I wonder why. Continue reading

Japan bidding to Host 2022 World Cup

The 2010 World Cup only recently finished after being successfully staged in South Africa. We already know that the 2014 world Cup is headed to Brazil and that it is widely believed that the 2018 games will be awarded to a European country. However the 2022 World Cup bid race is still an open one and Japan is in the running to host the world’s most prestigious and most watch sporting tournament.

The name of the bid is “Dream 2022″ and the tagline is “Our Dream: A world united through football.” Japan withdrew from the 2018 bidding race earlier this year to focus solely on winning the 2022 winning tournament. A summary of the bid book submitted to FIFA is available online or can be downloaded in PDF format. There is also a wealth of information on the official bid website and many videos on the bid committee Youtube channel, one of which I have embedded below. Continue reading

Tokyo Game Show 2010 Information

The 20th staging of the Tokyo Game Show is now only a month away. TGS 2010 will take place over a four-day period from Thursday, September 16 to Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Makuhari Messe in Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. As usual the first 2 days will be business days will Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public.

TGS 2010 Mascot/Idol

Tokyo Game Show offers a peek into what Japanese video game developers and hardware manufacturers are working on. Will we see a successor to the Wii? More about the 3DS? PSP revamp? What about new games, sequels and new franchises? It’s enough to get any gaming fan’s knickers in a twist. Plus I haven’t even gotten started on the cosplaying which I have been following at TGS for a while now. Continue reading

Cat Shit One – First Impressions

Yes the title of this post is correct and not a typo. Cat Shit one is an anime I posted the trailer for last year and after a few delays the first episode has finally been released. From the reading I did after first seeing the trailer I learned that Cat Shit One is based of a manga of the same name published in 1998. It was released in the west under the name Apocalypse Meow. I gave the first episode a watch a few days ago and enjoyed it immensely.

Packy and Bota in the first episode of Cat Shit One

Rabbits vs Camels

The first episode of Cat Shit One stars Packy and Bota who start an offensive against a rebel camp to rescue some prisoners. Packy and Bota are both rabbits and all the enemies are camels o.O. The animation and art-style is very Metal Gear-like and the movements and sound effects are topped notch although watching rabbits attack a base commando style is very amusing to say the least. It will be interesting to see how this anime’s story develops but unfortunately there is no concrete news on when episode two or future episodes will be available. Continue reading

6 Nostalgic Anime Openings from the 90′s

I listen to music while doing my droid-like duties at work and depending on my mood I might go for any kind of music from some soothing Bob Marley to some classic Nelly Furtado. Lately I’ve been more in the mood for anime soundtracks and if you follow me on Twitter you might have noticed a tweet about a “jizz-in-your-pants” moment I had when I heard the opening for Gundam Wing after so many years. After recovering from that geekgasm I though I’d share 6 random anime opening themes from the 1990′s that should be very nostalgic for anime fans in their mid 20′s like me that grew up watching these anime shows but if you are are younger (or older) they should still be pretty cool (I hope).

100 geek points to anyone who names this Gundam in a comment

Back in the 90′s the internet only accessible to a few people here in Jamaica so with no internet to stream or download anime like many people do now the only option was to watch anime on cable – mainly Cartoon Network’s Toonami in the afternoons after school and Kids WB very early on a Saturday morning. Heck I don’t even think me and my friends knew what “anime” was back then all we knew was these “cartoons” were awesome! Continue reading

My Dream Home in Japan? New meets Old

I have a appreciation for really old things, there is something fascinating about them and I might sound weird but believe that really old things have developed personalities over time no matter if it’s a simple old coin or the pyramids of Giza. At the same time though I like things modern especially architecture and design so how can you update a 300 year old Japanese house to the 21st century? Wrapping it in a modern structure of course!

This will most definitely be the coolest house on the block

The modern structure protects the old Japanese house from the elements and the ever present earthquake risk while providing new functionality and an updated layout Can you imaging growing up in a house like this? One minute I could imagine I’m the Shogun of Japan riding through the countryside while messing up my parents immaculately crafted garden, the next minute I could in the living room setting a head-shot record against my friends in a video game like Modern Warfare 2. Oh My God! I Killed L!

My L nendoroid was acquired over a year ago and due to my clumsiness and fiddling I have managed to break or lose all the neck joins that came with the figure (4 of them I think). The last one broke over the weekend when I was cleaning my room and moving my figures to a more prominent display area. to the unsuspecting eye L seems alright and still sits on his red chair with his head attached but touch him or shake the area in any way and his head rolls off spewing blood in all different directions.

With such a big head a strong neck is necessary

Private Funeral

The funeral service for L Lawliet will be held on February 30th 2011 at midnight at an undisclosed location. We understand that L has a large fanbase so we will be streaming funeral live while only allowing his close friends and shinigami associates to be present at the burial for fear that crazed fans attempt to bring him back to life or steal various body-parts. Manga marks 50 years of US Japan Alliance

The US Military in Japan has published the first chapter of a new manga to coincide with  50 year anniversary of the security pact between Japan and the USA. The first chapter is entitled entitled “Our Alliance – A Lasting Partnership” and will start the story staring Usa-kun – a young boy wearing a hooded jacket with rabbit ears as he meets Arai Anzu-chan – a glasses wearing Japanese girl. He states that he has come to defend her home because they are now important friends.

Usa-kun and Arai Anzu-chan

The Big Bangs

Not sure when Usa-kun will tell Anzu-chan that his parents probably fried her parents by dropping not one but two atomic bombs on Japan to end the second world war but then again I’m sure the creators wouldn’t want to turn this bright and bubbly manga into a horror story ^-^. Continue reading

The same Gundam was on display in Tokyo last year and attracted 4 million visitors but now has new weaponry in the form of a beam saber. Shizuoka is the capital city of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan and is located to the south west of Tokyo, it is also the city where Gundam plastic models or ‘Gunpla’ are made which are popular with Gundam fans in Japan and worldwide. I found an awesome time-lapse video of the Gundam that I have embedded below. Continue reading

Basic Japanese has Inflitrated my Vocabulary

I have been studying Japanese on and off far too long to not be good at it and while I have sought to blame my delinquency on the lack of opportunities to practice, my inability to remain motivated, a ‘busy’ lifestyle and procrastination there are a few simple words and phrases that have made their way into my vocabulary. My coworkers, family members and close friends have now learned a few of these words as I use them almost naturally, now if only I would study Japanese more consistently. A Few of these words I have listed below along with an example situation or situations I would use a few of my favourite ones and where I picked them up or heard them.

If my grandmother was a ninja I'd want her to be Chiyo

masaka – unbelievable!

Crazy and surprising things happen in life, my life is so different and on an almost daily basis there are a few unexpected occurrences that cause say “masaka” in different tones depending on the situation. A recent “masaka moment” was when I witnessed a speeding car get out of control and barely miss a head-on collision with a bus going in the opposite direction. I was taught this word by a lovely Sand Village ninja named Chiyo. Continue reading
