The last Sunday in March I went on my usal stress releaf trip out of the city, this time to the north eastern part of Jamaica to the Parish of St Mary. I had missed the trip in February at the last minute so I had double the amount of stress and my camera was beginning to gather dust as it went unused since I made it to the top of the Blue Mountains in January.
The goal was Kwame Falls (seen above) a beautiful and largely unknown waterfall tucked away in the forests of St Mary named after a famous Maroon (escaped slave). Our starting point was Robbin’s Bay, a place we had been to many months ago but we didn’t make it to the falls. Beforehand I was told the hike to the falls would be a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the Blue Mountain hike that almost killed me. It wasn’t THAT hard but it sure as hell wasn’t the stroll in the park I was expecting. I was mostly frustrated crossing the same river five times and having to (after slipping on a rock) use a massive amount of chakra to prevent myself (and all my gear) sleeping with the fishes in said annoying river.
The group sticked together and kept a good vibe alive, there was even cute dog hiking with us. I’ver never been a fan of small dogs but Spoogs (I think thats his name) proved to me that he is no handbag and never complained during the hike, unlike the lowly bi-pedal primate writing this post. After a few hours trodding through what felt like Vietnam and watching our trail slowly dwindle and the incline suddenly getting steeper we got our just reward when be beholded (not a word) Kwame Falls. A wonderful journey that I’d love to do again sometime, just earlier in the morning when it’s not so hot and miserable. More photos from the day below including Sir Spoogs, who I might add was quite the chick magnet.
Fellow yardie blogger and photographer Joel was also on the trip, check out his post about Kwame Falls and photos on his blog, he took and posted the group shot below with the falls as the backdrop.
