Each year a few months after the the end of the Tokyo International Anime Fair in late winter the organizers of the biggest Anime expo in the world runs a competition with the aim of selecting the mascot/character that will represent the expo the following year. This year I got the heads up on the competition info and since anybody, anywhere in the world can submit their entries into the character contest I though I’d blog about it

The above illustration was the winning entry for the 2009 show and was sent in by an office worker in Saitama Japan. Read the full character profile.
Entry Requirements and information
- Must be original unpublished work.
- Applicants of all nationalities, age, gender and even groups are eligible to enter.
- One entry per individual or group.
- Application period runs from May 1st – June 30th 2009.
- Winning character design will receive ¥200,000 ($2000).

If I wasn’t so artistically challenged I would probably enter too but I doubt I’d stand a chance. I have a few friends who are very good at drawing, illustrations and photoshop so I’ll forward this information unto them and urge them to enter, you never know right?
