Top 30 Countries With Fastest Internet

Remember my post about the average internet connection in Japan, while surfing around today I ran into a detailed chart showing the top 30 countries ranked in terms of internet speed. It’s no surprise who came out on top.

broadband_speed_chart_by_country

From that post a few months ago till now I have moved up to a 5mb connection from Flow Jamaica, I am not rocking the fastest connection available but lets so how much faster the speeds in Jamaica will get.

Wow, the U.S. is like in the mid spot. I wish we have Japan’s internet speed.

  2. September 10, 2007 at 11:22 pm #

Hey, I’ve got a Flow connection too! To David, getting Japan’s speed seems quite unlikely for us at present.

It’s cool that Korea is up there considering it’s the "most internet-wired nation in the world" ^_^ It’s quantity and quality :)

@ Tongteh…I think Honk Kong would be listed as a part of China and they did not make the top 30 list

U.S. sucks on Internet speed. Hence, it is not the most wired place. I think Korea and Japan is much ahead of our country.

Comcast in the United States will have 50 Mbps of downstream and 10 Mbps of upstream soon. The bad thing is that it costs $139.95 per month. WTF!

  15. danacon
    May 12, 2009 at 9:01 pm #

Dog get your facts straight. The USA is not even close to the most internet wired nation in the world , maybe more wires but because it is way bigger in actually size having to run more wires from one place to get to the next compared with say japan. than top providers. Comcast 50 Mbps of downstream and 10 Mbps of upstream would sure be nice but is petty. Some home users in the top rankes places are getting 101 mbps up and 25-50 down and even way higher than that, like they said its average, so in the USA like Canada its so big land wise we have to run so much more wire across the country then to each house out to the country and such, Canada has 30million people with larger land mass than USA and your have what 300million people 10x ours and…. meaning your companies in NY and large cities can provide lots of people at one time highest of speeds when I think in canada the largest city has what 3 million lol one province alone only has 800,000 people, so when you go by money coming in how close everything is and such USA is doing one poor ass job at providing internet to 85% of its customers.. for speed and price but with japans size landwize they are too. I’n today’s age everyone should be on at least 10mbps/10mbps Hfc or higher and that’s what 10 – 20 year old technology. 13 years ago in my small city of 76k people out telephone company was experimenting giving some dsl users HFC 10mbps up/down our this company had so much wires and so little people and very large size, 13 years ago most people were just getting on the internet with what 56k dialup lol remember those days. then Bell Canada bought it out and well all hell has gone to crap we have what 10mb is our fastest down and 1mbps up, just shows some companys go backwards or worry about so much money… BOO BELL and all you large money hungry companys [sob]

      July 3, 2011 at 4:14 pm #

Also, bear in mind that AT&T (and other phone companies) have been getting huge tax breaks for 20 or more years that were supposed to be funding replacing all that wire with fiber. Needless to say, they’ve been taking the money but not putting in the fiber, so we have a lot of catch up to do.

    @ danacon

yes America has more ppl therefore it reguires more connections as compared to your less populated country. with more ppl downloading and streaming it demands more on the system slowing down the bandwith. America is the Third largest country im happy where we are in internet it will get better. compared to smaller nations of course they are gonna have better internet speeds.

  26. Batman
    March 31, 2010 at 11:57 am #

America is still the most technologically advanced country in the world by a longshot. The reason Japan and Europe have faster Internet is because they are so much more densely populated than we are.

    • April 6, 2010 at 2:22 pm #

Surely though, not meaning to be rude or anything but I swear that Japan is the one with all the gadgets?
(They’ve got more technologically advanced toilets!!)
I agree that America is technologically advanced but Japan seem to share their technology with the rest of the world, therefore being of greater use to society.
It’s got nothing to do with the population necessarily. Japan have a higher demand for fast Internet, (they use mobile Internet a lot more than UK or US) so I’m sorry to burst your bubble but America isn’t AS FAR ahead as you suspected…

I tried to download this game in the U.S., which I downloaded in only 10 min. in Korea, it took me 10 hours.. It was hard to believe my eyes [cry] I downloaded anyways

  33. June 27, 2010 at 1:43 am #

mayb u had lower speed in us than korea .. but if u wanted more u would get ..

here i live in Egypt .. i have 1 MB DSL .. its download speed is 130 Kb/s .. that cost me 150 pounds ( egyptian pounds ) in a month .. i can pay higher than that .. so i can’t get a higher speed .. Egypt highest speed for home use is 21MB but cost like 2k a month ..
also we have 80 million people .. , oh and my speed isn’t limited i mean there is know such thing as bandwith as other countries i can download all i want the speed will stay the same and nothing would change .. but we also have limited package its cheaper .. like 1MB ( my speed ) limited would cost about 110 pound i think or less.. but u get like hmm how much was it ?? i think 7 GB .. 5 MB here would cost 555 pounds ..

so yep pay higher get a higher speed .. thats what its like here well we r still upgraded our tech few years back internet sucked here .. so we actually improved allot in few years and still going

I lived in USA, JAPAN, and CANADA. I’m originally from Tokyo. I remember when i use to play Call of Duty MW2 in my apartment back in Los Angeles. I would have to go through the stress of turning off my MSN,AIM,Torrent Downloads, and other crap, just to play a game. Over here, those habits are stone age procedures.

  35. Jennifer
    August 11, 2010 at 6:39 pm #

Countries that have the fastest average internet speeds often have very urbanised populations with most people living in apartments. It is easy to run a cable in a multiresidential building which can supply Internet services to all households there. In countries like Canada, US and Australia where the population is more spread out and scattered, and people prefer to live in single-household dwellings, you’ll be a running a cable to serve maybe one household or a few. That is not economical for many governments.

I believe Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania also have very fast Internet services for their populations and these countries are hardly wealthy countries so a country need not be very rich to supply Internet broadband services. Political vision is needed.

I’ll say. In the UK, we only pay on average £15 a month for broadband and internet. That’s like around $20-25? And most of the time you add another £20 for TV and calls. But I don’t get how countries like Hungary are above us? That’s wrong! My fiancee is from Hungary, and the internet connection there take around 45 seconds to fully load a page. Here, it takes maximum 5 or 6 seconds, where usually it loads in less than or equal to a second.
