Valkyria Chronicles – First Impressions

Valkyria Chronicles was the first pick on my list of most anticipated anime premiering in Spring 2009. I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of Valkyria Chronicles and although it started a little slow I am starting to warm up to this anime although I have seen very little so far. I like the artstyle and the main characters. Looking back now after seeing how episode 2 ended I can somewhat forgive how slow most of episode one was.

I hate retarded female characters in anime and so far Alicia is anything but retarded

War has broken out in the fictional 1930′s Europe-like Valkyria Chronicles universe and the enemy has brought the fight to your little border town. Surely there is a reason why they have chosen to attack your little unimportant spec on the map but before the battle begins you and your fellow part time militia pals arrest a law abiding citizen for spying on fishes and bring him in to be interrogated.  The prisoner escapes and pretty soon the real enemies arrive but you are rescued by a fireball spitting iron can. Things don’t go too well for the town during the first battle but reinforcements from the main  army arrive just before your underpowered and untrained militia are sent to meet your maker.

Valkyria Chronicles was originally a tactical role playing game made by Sega for the Playstation 3 and I am not too sure if the story for the anime will be similar with that of the video game. Doesn’t matter really cuz I haven’t played the game before but I just might play it as I am a fan of strategy games and I have been taking a look at trailers of the game. Still early days however but for now Valkyria Chronicles remains on my weekly anime watchlist. Have you seen this anime yet?

Not sure if it’s CG but the fight scenes featuring tanks have been fun to watch so far
