End Water Poverty – Blog Action Day 2010

Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. The aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion around an important issue that impacts us all. This is my forth year participating in Blog Action Day, with the topic this year being “Water”.

Nearly one billion people in the world today don’t have access to clean water and 42,000 people die each week from water-borne diseases. And the issue doesn’t stop there – water availability impacts a wide variety of issues from the environment to women’s rights and from technology to fashion.

End Water Poverty

I decided to share some information about the issue with my readers by pointing them to the EndWaterPoverty.org website which does an excellent job of detailing the issue while providing information on how you can take action to do your part to end water poverty.

The facts: Currently, a staggering 2.6 billion people live without a safe toilet and 884 million people lack access to clean water. These problems combine to make a massive crisis for developing countries – undermining health, education, economic and gender equality progress.

  1. Damn since 2007-Impressive.
We did this last year -was shocked to see that I participated.

Certainly as Jamaicans we are quite familiar with the scenario here of how important it is. Just home more people will have access to it.
